Sean Phelps, PhD

As a form of cheap babysitting, his parents had him take swimming lessons as a toddler (somewhere around the time he decided to walk over from a motel wading pool, climb onto the diving board and jump into the main pool).

He began his competitive aquatic background in the ‘70s with the Billings Big Sky Swim Club before he became a lifeguard and swimming instructor in high school. For over 15 years he was swim instructor, Lifeguard Training Instructor and Water Safety Instructor Trainer.

In 1982, he discovered the sport of triathlon and has completed 200+  triathlons (3 Ironmans including Hawai'i) and 35+ aquathlons. While living in New Zealand he embraced open water swimming and has competed in  130+ open water swim races.  As a PhD student in Sport Mangement at Florida State University, he taught swimming and triathlon for the P.E. department and was the coach for FSU Triathletes, the school’s club team.

For 2017, Phelps qualified for ITU Rotterdam as part of Team USA in the draft legal sprint triathlon. He's celebrating 35 years in the sport in 2017.

Additionally, he is a USA Swimming Level 2 coach, a US Masters Swimming Level 2 coach and an American Swimming Coaches Association Level 1 coach. Sean is also certified in 1st Aid, CPR and Lifeguard Training. Your safety and well being is of primary concern.
